It’s almost that time of year again! Time for families to come together and celebrate the joyous occasion that is Christmas.
To some, buying Christmas presents for pets might seem silly. But for animal lovers like us, it’s completely normal to have a few little goodies under the tree with your furbabies’ names on them! Which is why we’ve decided to put together a list of our favourite dog gifts, for you to steal inspiration from this Christmas.
A Quality Harness (and matching leash, if you’re feeling generous)
A good quality harness is one of the best presents you can buy for your dog! Harnesses are essential for daily walks, particularly for larger breeds of dogs. There are a number of different companies making and selling harnesses these days, so it can be quite tricky to know which to choose.
Here are a few things to look out for when shopping for options:
- The strap should fit comfortably under both of their front and back legs, so as to not rub behind their legs.
- The metal ring that the leash clips onto should be towards the back end of the harness, so when your dog tugs on the lead, it will not choke him.
- The harness should be made of a soft, comfortable material that won’t create friction on your dog’s body.
2. Chew Toys / Dental Treats
Anybody who’s attempted to brush their dog’s chompers before will know how hard it is to get them sparkly clean. Most pups won’t sit still for long enough to let you get right to the back of their mouth. Strong rubber chew toys and dental treats are great alternatives for teeth brushing!
When choosing chew toys or treats for your dog, always ensure they are bigger than their mouth, to avoid choking hazards. Also look for toys and treats that aren’t going to splinter or crack inside your dog’s mouth. The best quality pet oral health products will have a stamp of approval from the Veterinary Oral Health Council (VOHC), so keep an eye out for that too.
3. A Foam Bolster Dog Bed
A comfy night’s sleep is something we all deserve – and that’s not excluding our furred four-legged friends! Buying a plush dog bed made from squishy foam inserts is the perfect pressie idea for your pooch. Plus, it might mean the difference between them jumping up on your bed in the middle of the night, and actually sleeping the night through on the floor next to you.
4. Dog Training Classes at Samford Pet Resort
At Samford Pet Resort, we believe in giving your pet the best life possible. For our four-legged canine friends, this should involve some form of training. Not to keep them in line, or make them obedient to your every command, but to teach them how to socialise with other dogs and humans in a safe and friendly way. Think of it as schooling for dogs! Which is why we offer dog training classes for you and your pup, to strengthen your bond and allow you to communicate with them better.
If you’re not a fan of buying too many materialistic goods, why not purchase a few dog training sessions and call them their Christmas present?
5. Icy Treats for Summer
As the weather warms up, so too does your dog’s thermal body temperature. A great way to cool them down in summertime – and reward them when they’re well behaved – is by feeding them delicious frozen treats! We’ve made a list of simple scrumptious recipes (seriously, they’re good enough for human consumption!) for you – check them out here.
