How to help your pet to deal with storm phobia

How to help your pet to deal with storm phobia
December 5, 2018 Samford Pet Resort

With storm season now upon us, it’s important to ensure your pets are able to feel safe and remain secure during a thunderstorm event.

Dogs, in particular, can react out of fear when they hear thunder, sometimes injuring themselves or frantically trying to escape. But there are some things that you can do to help them feel safer and more settled.

Some pets are assisted by wearing a Thundershirt (designed to apply constant, gentle pressure much like swaddling an infant baby), which helps them feel safe and secure.

If you are boarding your pet with us over the storm season, make it known to the Resort that your pet has a storm phobia. It is also highly recommended that you speak with your veterinarian to discuss which options are available to ensure their phobia is managed while they are away from home.
