Although we aren’t sure when we can hop on an international flight yet, it isn’t time to throw in the towel on your holiday plans!… This is a great chance to tick off some destinations on your Queensland bucket list, as domestic travel and road trips are still a great way to relax and see some pretty amazing spots! Plus, there’s the added bonus of supporting our local economy in these uncertain times.
There is so much beauty to be explored in Queensland, and at Samford Pet Resort, we love looking after your fur baby while you go on a much needed holiday! We’ve put together some of our favourite local destinations in Queensland to show that there is something for everyone, right at our own doorstep:
Only 25km away from Brisbane’s shore is the THIRD LARGEST sand island in the world! The water is a vibrant blue with lakes that are crystal clear. The list of activities you can experience is extensive, from snorkelling at the mysterious shipwrecks, witnessing dolphins in the wild at sunset, visiting the lighthouse, swimming in the Blue Lagoon, exploring the island by helicopter, 4WD around the island and quad biking- we could keep going, the list doesn’t end!
They call this place the ‘garden city’ for a reason – it has some seriously amazing options for those who love to take it slow and smell the roses (quite literally). There are so many hip bars and laneway cafes to dine in, you’ll be spoilt for choice! If you’re wanting more of a challenge, you could hike/climb Tabletop Mountain, the views are second to none – breathtaking.
Is there anything better than a weekend away in the hinterland? Seriously, Maleny puts on a show every time! There’s a huge range of stunning accommodation to choose from, with your choice of boutique hotels, Airbnb and even glamping (glamorous camping – it’s a thing). Take the scenic route and immerse yourself in the lushness that nature has to offer, or head to Kondalilla Falls for a nice relaxing hike followed by a swim. You’re also only a short drive away from some of the best beaches Australia has to offer, not to mention the food!
The Whitsunday Islands
Looking for a location akin to the Maldives, just without the price tag and not too far from home? Yep, the Whitsundays are calling your name then. Home to Australia’s first underwater accommodation, 4 metres below sea level at Cruise Whitsundays’ rebuilt Great Barrier Reef pontoon, you could be quite literally waking up in the turquoise blue waters. This gem was sadly damaged during Cyclone Debbie, but has been redeveloped and is back better than ever, all it needs is you!
Burleigh, The Gold Coast
This pocket of heaven is the place to be if you want to find a little more relaxation than what Surfers Paradise has to offer. Pristine beaches and natural parks will have you out in nature from dawn till dusk. Start your day off on a nice walk through the Burleigh national park headland, followed by a swim at Tallebudgera Creek and to finish off the night, some fish and chips on Burleigh Hill. We couldn’t think of a better way to spend a holiday!
