How to Choose the Right Pet Resort For You

How to Choose the Right Pet Resort For You

Choosing the right pet resort for you and your beloved family member can be tough. There are so many options to choose from and you want to make sure the resort has the best possible facilities and staff to care for your pet.

Here are a few ways to pick a pet resort you won’t regret:

1. Online Investigation
Check out the pet resort’s website, social media pages and any online reviews you come across. Look for pet resorts that have awards or are accredited by the Pet Industry Association of Australia (PIAA), so you know they are operating at the highest standard. Take note of any extra services they offer that will make your pet’s stay more comfortable (such as luxurious grooming services), or make things easier for you (such as a pet pickup service).

2. Tour the Facilities
Once you’ve narrowed down your list, it’s a good idea to make an appointment to tour their facilities. This will enable you to see firsthand whether or not your pet will be safe, comfortable and cared for, and get answers to any questions you may have.

Questions to ask:
How often will my pet be fed each day?
Will they have plenty of access to clean water?
Can my dog see outside? Do they get outside playtime?
Do the facilities seem well maintained?

3. Cleanliness
A pet resort that adheres to a certain standard of cleanliness is a top priority for pet owners. Clean and tidy facilities mean less risk of your pet getting sick or injured. Take note of any abnormal aromas and if the rooms look noticeably clean and nice smelling.

Another thing to look for is whether or not the pet resort has any added measures in place to make your pet’s stay as comfortable as it can be. For example, at Samford Pet Resort, we use synthetic pheromones.

4. Safety
Your pet’s safety is something you want to be confident of when you’re away on holiday. The last thing you want is a call saying that your dog has escaped and was last seen running down the road in the direction of home!

Things to look for:
Is the enclosure secure so your pet won’t escape?
Is it a safe and sheltered structure free from dangerous objects?
Is it large enough so they can stretch, play and move around freely?
How do you handle emergency situations?

5. Exercise
If you’re going to be boarding a dog, check that the pet resort offers a decent sized grassy area for them to run around and play in. For cats, climbing spaces and scratching posts are important, as is temperature control.

Questions to ask:
What type of exercise do you offer and for how long each day?
Will my dog be able to socialise with other dogs?
Will my cat have enough privacy and space to themselves?

6. Staff
A good pet resort will have staff that are friendly and welcoming, as well as trained and experienced in animal behaviour and animal care. They need to be able to handle different types of animals in a competent manner and deal with potential issues before they arise.

Questions to ask:
Are your staff qualified and trained by experts?
Will my pet receive the care they need if they require medication or special food?

Samford Pet Resort is PIAA accredited, and we take our safety standards and regulations very seriously. We take great pride in our 5-star, pet-friendly accommodation.
